Gum Disease Treatment
The health of the structures surrounding the teeth is as important as maintaining the health of the teeth themselves. Periodontics is an area of dental care that deals with the maintenance and repair of the supporting structures of the teeth such as the gums and jaw bone. Just like a bad foundation can shake a house, periodontal disease can spoil the foundation of healthy teeth and can create serious oral issues.
Some of the periodontal treatments offered at the office of Heresi Dental Care are listed below:
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a very effective, non-surgical treatment for periodontitis, an early stage of gum disease. Specialized dental tools are used to access the deep spaces between teeth and remove plaque and tartar. Rough spots on the root surfaces are then smoothed out in order to prevent future accumulations.
Crown Lengthening (Gingivectomy)
This is a surgical treatment used to treat gum disease where the bone, gum tissue, or both are removed to expose more of a tooth. A cut is made in the gum to let them pull away from the tooth and expose the roots and surrounding bone. The area is then flushed, and the gums are stitched back together.
Ridge Augmentation & Preservation
The procedure of ridge augmentation is done to add bone to the maxillary sinuses in order to support prosthetic teeth. Ridge preservation involves adding bone grafts at the site of an extracted tooth immediately after the removal procedure to prevent bone deterioration.
